Severe Acro-osteolysis in a Case of Limited Cutaneous Scleroderma
Systemic sclerosis (scleroderma) is a rare fetal autoimmune disease of connective tissue leading to skin fibrosis as well as internal organ involvement (1). An annual incidence rate of 2-20 and prevalence rate of 100-300 per million population have been estimated for scleroderma with a mean survival of 12 yr from diagnosis (2-4). متن کاملAcro-osteolysis in systemic sclerosis is associated with digital ischaemia and severe calcinosis.
OBJECTIVES Acro-osteolysis (bony resorption of the terminal digital tufts) is a well-recognized, but under-researched, manifestation of SSc. Our aim was to investigate the hypothesis that acro-osteolysis is associated with (i) the severity of digital ischaemia and (ii) the presence of calcinosis. متن کاملIdiopathic multicentric osteolysis with acro-osteolysis. A case report.
We report a case of multicentric massive osteolysis. A 52-year-old woman presented with a three-year history of progressive deformities of the hands. She had osteolytic lesions of the metacarpals and metatarsals, and resorption of the terminal phalanges. During follow-up over four years osteolysis spread to affect the ribs, clavicles, mandible, and long bones. There was no family history of any...
متن کاملAcro-osteolysis prior to diagnosis of leprosy.
lysis (bone resorption) has been observed in a heterogeneous group of congenital and acquired bone disorders. Leprosy is the main cause of peripheral neuropathy leading to acro-osteolysis in endemic countries. Pure neuritic leprosy, a less common form of the disease, is difficult to diagnose. Two unrelated leprosy patients with acropathy whose disease began as pure neuritic are discussed.
